Policy Update: South Australia State Sponsorship Occupation List Changes

Policy Update: South Australia State Sponsorship Occupation List Changes

Immigration SA has conducted a mid-year review that resulted in an updated occupation list for the General Skilled Migration (GSM) visas.

As you will see below, there were;

  • 3 occupations added to the occupation list
  • Removal of “Special Conditions” to very common occupations
  • Lifted restrictions for SSL offshore applicants
  • English levels reduced
  • Other Changes

On 11 February 2019, Immigration SA will implement the updated occupation list for both the State Nominated Occupation List (SNOL) and the Supplementary Skilled List (SSL).

Occupations Added to SNOL

The addition to an occupation list is always a welcomed change. With recent developments to South Australia's economy including the Whyalla Steel Plant and the Space Agency, it's great to see that SA immigration is willing to continue to adapt to what the state needs.

SNOL Occupations with “Special Conditions” status to be removed

The removal of “Special Conditions” is a very refreshing update, especially due to the occupations that have received the exceptions. Occupations such as; customer service manager, registered nurses, and real estate representative are extremely common and are now even more accessible for migrants.

Removal of the requirement that if qualification was obtained in Australia, this must have been achieved in South Australia.

All in all, we are very pleased with the updated occupation list. It shows that Immigration SA, as well as the South Australian government, is not only in favor of increasing immigration to South Australia but it proves they are actively trying to assist migrants in making the move.
