The Skilled Nominated (Permanent) subclass 190 visa

Who needs this visa?

This visa is for skilled applicants that wish to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident. Applicants are not required to have an employer to sponsor them, but do need to be nominated by a State or Territory government.

What are the application requirements?

To be eligible for this visa, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be under 45 years of age.
  • Have a nominated occupation on the relevant Skilled Occupation List.
  • Have obtained a positive skills assessment.
  • Have at least competent English. The minimum requirement is IELTS 6.0, PTE Academic scores for tests taken before August 7, 2025 are 50 in each component, while for tests taken on or after August 7, 2025, the scores are Listening: 47, Reading: 48, Writing: 51, Speaking: 54, or equivalent scores across all bands. Please note that while higher scores are not mandatory, they may be required to be awarded additional points.
  • Score at least 65 points on the Points Test.
  • Be nominated by a State or Territory government.

What is the application process?

  1. Check eligibility against points test

  2. Obtain positive skills assessment and required English test results

  3. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect

  4. Apply for State or Territory government nomination

  5. Submit visa application within 60 days of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and include all supporting documents for the application
