Comments from Principal Migration Agent and Lawyer Chris Johnston

Changes have been the biggest feature of Australian Immigration policy in 2017 and it looks likely to continue into 2018, with these possible changes.

The biggest loser is likely to be Recruitment Consultants, because they are quite a popular occupation.

Of the occupations looking to return to the lists, the one most likely to have big numbers of applicants is the occupation of University Tutor.

Please note that the changes quoted are speculative and we will bring you further updates once the changes are confirmed.

Of course these proposed changes for January 2018 are only small fine tuning compared to the major changes the Federal Government has planned for March 2018.  The March 2018 changes will include:

  • Abolition of the 457 and replacement with the TSS visa.
  • Major changes to RSMS list, which could be much shorter.
  • TSMIT to apply to RSMS
